2012 Early Stage Cooper Investigations Research Grants Announced

The Cooper Foundation Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Dr. Brigitte Baumann and Dr. Joanne Mazzarelli are this year’s awardees of its Early Stage Cooper Investigations Research Grants administered through the Cooper Research Institute.  Dr. Baumann will study the use of the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment methodology for emergency department patients with elevated blood pressure.  Dr. Mazzarelli will study the use of central aortic pressure and aortic pulse wave velocity, a measure of aortic stiffness, to more accurately predict cardiovascular outcomes.  Each will receive a one-time award of $25,000.

In keeping with its charter, the Cooper Foundation has made these grants available to improve the health of our patients while simultaneously fostering the academic career development of our researchers.  It is the hope of the Cooper Foundation that this research support will result in scholarly publications and new extramural research grants for future research.
