Artist Bio:
Yuri Lev’s photographs tell tales in a universal language, celebrating the diversity of nature and culture through textured photographs of leaves, buildings, traditions, animals and people.
Yuri was born in Leningrad, Russia and spent the greater part of his life living in Moscow.
He currently resides in Cherry Hill with his wife, Olga Goldfarb, MD, a Cooper pediatric neurologist.
His works have appeared in LIFE, the New York Times and other American and Russian publications.
“From the dog sleds in Siberia to the rooftops of Manhattan, my photographs show the mindful perspective of a world traveler with an eye for the natural beauty of New Jersey.”

Liz Nicklus was instrumental in the development of the Millville Glasstown Arts District with her pioneering involvement in the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts, her partnership in The Gallery at High Street Design and her work with teens and children on artistic projects such as murals and mosaics.
Liz is a painter, mixed media and mosaic artist, using patterns and layers unified by complex color relationships. She has completed several public mosaic murals and studied with renowned Philadelphia muralist Isaiah Zagar in the summer of 2003.

Artist Bio:
A true Jersey girl, Laura Petrovich-Cheney grew up in Haddonfield and currently lives in Asbury Park.
Her work – including this piece created from wooden remnants from Hurricane Sandy – focuses on repurposing salvaged wood into something meaningful and orderly.
Laura uses wooden debris as she finds it, the textures and faded colors suggesting another life. The history of the salvaged wood is told through its chipped layers of paint, nail holes and grain. Laura uses recurrent patterns to explore ideas that are rooted in the repetition of life – birth, growth, death and regeneration.
Laura received her MFA from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia.

Artist Bio:
Joe Rademan’s artwork is inspired by the landscape of New Jersey – from the mountains to the coast.
He loves the way the light plays upon the land and the sea, and delights in the colors that are found in the natural world.
Joe attended the Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia and spent 20 years as an artist for the Gloucester County Times, Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News. At present, he is the art director for an internet technology company in Pennsauken and an associate artist with the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts in Millville.
Joe moved to South Jersey in his early 20s and has called it home for more than 30 years.
“With my work, I try to share the incredible vistas of New Jersey and my love of the land. There is a beauty in the landscape that transcends time.”

Artist Bio:
Linda Ramsay grew up in the Garden State and currently resides in Wenonah, where her studio is located. She received her BFA from Rutgers in 1979.
Linda’s oil paintings are impressionistic and influenced by the Jersey Shore and the Jersey Pine Barrens. Much of her work is inspired by her time on Long Beach Island, where she maintains a second studio.
As evidenced by this piece, Linda enjoys painting the changing colors, reflections and shadows of the bay, sky and wetlands, and strives to capture the mood and energy that nature provides.
“I want my work to elicit memories and create a peaceful mood. I am especially drawn to painting images that evoke memories of South Jersey and the Jersey Shore, special places that many of us hold close to our hearts.”

As a child, Heather Rippert spent summers at the Jersey Shore in Sea Isle, Marmora and Ocean City. Those early days by the ocean remain a source of inspiration for her paintings today.
Her watercolors embody the essence of sand and sea and capture a sense of spirituality that is both inviting and warm.
Heather received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and studied at the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland.
“Art is a tremendous vehicle to aid the healing process. A peaceful and calm scene can provide a place for a person to travel through. When the body may not be capable of travel, the mind can move freely through art.”

After retiring from a 26-year career in the airline industry, Carol Staub embarked on a new journey – a journey into the world of art.
She first studied silversmithing, creating one-of-a-kind, custom jewelry, and later at the behest of a friend, took up painting.
Today, she creates abstract, mixed medium paintings that often incorporate found objects and elements of collage.
Carol has lived and worked in New Jersey for 36 years.

Artist Bio:
Deb Strong Napple is a three-time cancer survivor with a deep appreciation for the beauty and joy that art can bring, especially during a difficult time.
After college, Deb married a Navy man who took her traveling around the world, but when he retired, they returned home so that she could attend art school.
Deb’s etchings, woodcuts and paintings are her interpretations of what it feels like to be in a specific place, at a specific time. Her journeys around the globe opened her eyes to the beauty the world holds and sparked a desire to share that beauty through art.
Deb was born in Somerville, and later moved to Hopewell, where she graduated from Hopewell Valley High School in 1979.
“When I was undergoing treatment for my cancers, the hardest time was always the waiting – whether for a procedure, a test or for the doctor to deliver the news. Art helped me through the waiting, and I hope it can help others too.”

Artist Bio:
James Toogood views painting as a unique and universal form of language that transcends the limitations of other languages to communicate with virtually everyone.
In this particular watercolor, James uses the annual cranberry harvest to depict a colorful scene specific to the Pinelands of South Jersey. The painting is meant to provide patients and families a soothing diversion from their current circumstance.
A longtime New Jersey resident, James is a master at creating light, depth and texture within his work.
James regularly writes and lectures about watercolor painting and currently teaches at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
“I use painting to communicate my thoughts about the people, places and things that make up the world we live in.”

UrbanPromise educates and empowers more than 600 Camden children and young adults each year, who demonstrate a hunger to participate in activities that challenge academic, spiritual and social growth.
The abstract image was created by a third grader for an assignment on warm and cool colors. This piece uses cool colors and appears to depict a moon, clouds, snow and houses.
The image of the dove was created by a seventh grader assigned to design a symbol of peace.

Arthur Brener has been creating silkscreen prints since the early 1970's.
He cuts all of his own stencils and prints all of his own prints. Using water-based and acrylic inks, Arthur achieves the dense, bright, rich and splashy colors that give his graphic designs and silkscreen prints his signature touch.
Arthur has had a career in advertising, marketing and magazine publishing, all of which have had a significant influence on his work.
“I admire and am inspired by Miro and Calder. I hope that my prints evoke the same kind of joy I experience when I look at the work of these two great artists.”

Pat Brentano has lived in New Jersey for 30 years.
Pat’s work is focused on connecting people with nature in an effort to make people better stewards of the planet’s natural resources.
Pat earned her MFA from the Tyler School of Art and taught at Kean University. She has collaborated on sculpture installations with several New Jersey environmental organizations, including The Nature Conservancy and Jersey Audubon.
“I have a deep desire to reconnect people to nature. Through my work, I hope to remind people that we do not own nature. We are a part of it.”

William and his wife, Ronja, are the owners of Gallery Eleven One in Camden, where they moved with their two sons in 2011.
Living and working just blocks from Cooper, William says he sees first-hand how Cooper is revitalizing the community, bringing lasting benefits to the city, the region and the state.
With more than 20 years of experience as an artist and graphic designer, William enjoys creating art that inspires and challenges him and the viewer.
“My heart aches for those diagnosed with cancer, and I pray and hope for the day when leaders in medicine – such as Cooper – will find cures for all cancers.”

Artist Bio:
Maryann Cannon’s New Jersey roots date to 1919 when her grandparents visited Atlantic City on their honeymoon and never left. Today, her family can boast about having five generations of New Jersey residents.
Maryann works primarily as a realistic oil painter and is the founder of La Bottega of Art and Copperplate Studio, both located in the Glasstown Arts District of Millville. She also conducts workshops for aspiring artists.
Maryann’s paintings are inspired by nature. Her goal is to transport viewers to a better place whether a peaceful place in the woods, a soothing spot on the Shore or a quiet respite by the sea.
“When I think of Cooper, I think of close family and friends who are still here today because of the expert care they received from Cooper’s amazing doctors, nurses and medical staff.”

Laura Williams Chassot studied ceramic sculpture, drawing and painting at the Casa Museo Espinoza in Spain, and today creates vibrant, colorful work she calls “stroke paintings.”
An artist in every sense, Laura writes poetry and short stories when she is not painting or carving wood. Within each medium, her deeper purpose is to incite passion and to connect deeply with viewers or readers. Laura has been touched personally by friends and family members who have fought cancer and one day would like to create a performance piece with the theme: Triumph Over Cancer.

Artist Bio:
Jeff Filbert was born at Cooper and has had a studio on the same street as the hospital for more than 20 years.
Built in 1926 as an Italian union hall, the studio was an Italian restaurant during the Great Depression and later a church.
Jeff’s paintings of the Pine Barrens and Jersey Shore are inspired by his love of the landscapes that he has hiked through since a child growing up in South Jersey.
Jeff is an instructor in the Department of Fine arts at Rutgers Camden and has also taught at Burlington County College.
Whenever he travels, he always feels good crossing the state line back into New Jersey.
“We are all healing in one way or another, and art – in its mysterious ways – can connect us to that process.”

Artist Bio:
Sonia Gonzalez is one of the collaborators behind the mural depicting Camden’s history that adorns the City Council Chambers in Camden City Hall.
Her work conveys her experiences, feelings and points of view about the world around her. The themes of acculturation, immigration, poverty and nature are often present in her pieces and are influenced by her own personal growth.
A Cherry Hill resident, Sonia graduated from Rutgers Camden with a BFA in graphic design and is currently a designer with the University’s Community Leadership Center.
“My philosophy as a designer and artist is to be different, to find unique ways of conveying concepts, and most importantly, to use the artist’s canvas to express myself as an individual.”

Waretown resident Sheila Grabarsky is fascinated by color. She remembers as a small child the thrill she got from putting a yellow sun into a blue sky and creating color. Her paintings today have strong color tonality.
Sheila’s work is about introspection – spiritual, psychological, and soul searching.
She believes that art has deep healing powers and can bring a viewer joy and peace during the most difficult times.

IDA MAKOS - STILL LIFE WITH WATER

Born in 1902, Ida Makos was a pioneer in the South Jersey arts community.
A housewife and mother of three children, Ida did not start painting until the 1950's. Yet she was still one of just a few female artists in the region at the time.
Ida enjoyed painting landscapes and also took pleasure in teaching her grandchildren how to paint. She loved Halloween and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Ida was also a member of the Society of New Jersey Artists and her work hangs in Millville City Hall. Ida passed away in 1989 at the age of 86.

Artist Bio:
Diane S. Grimes finds inspiration for her paintings in the colors of the ocean, the warmth of the breeze and the ever-changing views of the sky.
The Jersey Shore has always played an important role in her life, having spent summers in Wildwood as a child and then spending family time at her parent’s home in Cape May after they retired.
A resident of New Jersey for 41 years, Diane has been an art educator for more than three decades. She currently serves as chairwoman of the Art Department at Immaculata University.
Diane lost her brother-in-law to cancer in February 2013.
“When my brother-in-law became bedridden, I showed him how to paint on his iPad. Art is so powerful and can open the door for incredible healing, especially of one’s soul.”

Patricia lets her paintings “tell her” their titles when they’re finished. The titles talk of a spiritual journey that honors the beauty and hope of the feminine.

Artist Bio:
Jim Inzero’s work is deeply influenced by his love of the coast and his life at the Jersey Shore. Many of the paintings on display in his Point Pleasant Beach gallery depict sailboats and water.
As an encaustic painter, Jim uses heated beeswax, resin and pigment applied to wood panels. This allows him to create paintings with unique texture and bold colors.
“This piece depicts the beauty of the eastern coastline. My goal is to share this beauty in my paintings and transport the viewer to another place in time.”

JOYCE HARRIS MAYER - HOMAGE TO MONET

Artist Bio:
Joyce Harris Mayer studied at the New York City Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences, and in the 1960s worked as an art director in magazine and book publishing, becoming one of the first female art directors in the country.
Joyce moved to Medford in 2003 to be closer to her son in Cherry Hill.
Illness forced Joyce to put down her paints and brushes, but she discovered her new media in the computer by using the empty screen as a blank canvas to create abstract images.
“Visual art is a nexus for emotion and thought. It is among the great intellectual achievements of humans and separates us from all the other creatures on this planet.”

Artist Bio:
Born in 1920 in Philadelphia, Paul Keene enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1941, and served with the Tuskegee Airmen in the 332nd Fighter Group. He died in 2009.
Paul received his BFA in 1947 and MFA in 1948 from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.
He studied at the Academie Julian in Paris, becoming a part of Gallery 8, and exhibited with Picasso and Leger at the Salon de Mai.
Paul taught at Philadelphia College of Art and Bucks County Community College and directed courses at the Centre D’Art in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In his later years, he and his wife summered in Cape May.

Tony LaSalle uses acrylic on canvas to paint subjects that include small, stylized portraits, crowds of people, and massive bountiful gardens.
Tony has an MA in education, administration and supervision from Rider University in Lawrence Township, New Jersey. He is a professor on the faculty at Delaware Valley College and maintains a studio in Lambertville.

Dolores Poacelli is a longtime Collingswood resident with a studio in Philadelphia’s Italian Market, where she has worked for 27 years. She was a recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship for painting.
Using a mix of materials and playing with proportion, Dolores creates excitement through the relationship of color, shape, texture, and proportion.
Dolores’ pieces employ color to create energy and evoke through drawing, collaging and painting layers until they become their own reality.

Artist Bio:
Growing up as an only child, Marlene Baron Summers often turned to painting as a form of self-expression. More than seven decades later, she is still painting.
Marlene was born in Philadelphia in 1936, her mother a first-generation American and her father an immigrant from Eastern Europe. She has lived in Cherry Hill for 48 years and raised two sons while taking classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Fleisher Art Memorial.
Much of her work from the 1980s depicts the many changes women experienced in the previous two decades, including the growing independence and freedom she herself was experiencing as an artist, wife and mother.
Marlene describes herself as a social realist and it is through the magic of oil painting that she describes life as she feels it.
“My background is very much the foundation of my work, growing out of the conviction that hard work and love of life can turn dreams into reality.”
