Cooper and Inspira form orthopedic joint venture

Cooper University Health Care and Inspira Medical Center Woodbury have formed a joint venture to provide patients in Gloucester County, N.J., with expanded access to orthopaedic specialists. Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

The joint venture will operate as the Cooper Bone and Joint Institute at Inspira Woodbury, and include physicians from both health systems.

Eileen K. Cardile, president and CEO of Inspira Medical Center Woodbury, said that during strategic planning, the hospital’s board identified growing orthopedic services as an area of need for the communities they serve.

“This partnership allows increased access to a full line of musculoskeletal care for the patients of southern New Jersey,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Miller, who will serve as medical director of the partnership. Miller is chief of the department of orthopedic surgery at Cooper University Health Care in Camden and director of the Cooper Bone and Joint Institute.

Cooper Bone and Joint physicians specialize in joint replacement, sports medicine, surgery of the hand and upper extremities, foot and ankle surgery, and other procedures.

To accommodate the joint venture’s surgical cases at Inspira Woodbury, renovations will be made at the hospital to enhance its operating suite, the orthopedic inpatient unit and the surgical waiting areas. Later this year, the joint venture will open new physician offices in West Deptford and Glassboro to go along with an existing office in Woodbury.

The Inspira Health Network, the Woodbury hospital’s parent organization, was formed in November 2012 by the merger of South Jersey Healthcare, based in Vineland, N.J., and Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury.
