Cooper University Health Care Teams Up with United Way to Install a Born Learning Trail at Cooper River
CAMDEN, N.J. – Cooper University Health Care and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey installed a Born Learning Trail at the William G. Rohrer Children’s Playground at Cooper River in Pennsauken on Friday, Oct. 4.
Generously supported by The Cooper Foundation, a Born Learning Trail is a series of 10 signs accompanied by colorful shapes and designs painted on the walkway that enhance the learning experience. The Trail is an interactive, playful and visible community engagement tool that gives caregivers and children the opportunity to participate in outdoor learning activities that support school readiness and long-term success.
“Every day is a learning experience for children,” stated Susan Bass Levin, President and CEO of The Cooper Foundation. “We’re proud to support a project that encourages children and caregivers to get outdoors to play and learn together.”
Employees from Cooper University Health Care installed the signs and painted the designs on the walkway as part of Cooper’s commitment to giving back to the community. Camden County Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez and Pennsauken Mayor Betsy McBride were on hand to thank Cooper for enhancing the playground.
“Studies show that when adults talk, sing, and play games with children, they stimulate language development and build important foundations for learning to read,” said Chris Major, Team Lead for Engagement at UWGPSNJ. “Together with dedicated partners like The Cooper Foundation, UWGPSNJ advocates for youth success throughout our region.”
