Happy Holidays from Susan Bass Levin

As you surely know, traumatic injuries, childhood illnesses and diseases like cancer and heart disease don't take a break for the holidays. So when you give to The Cooper Foundation, you help us save lives.

In fact, with the New Year just around the corner, there is still time to make a year-end, tax-deductible contribution.

Perhaps you will support our Cornerstone Campaign for MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. Become a Founding Donor by December 31 and see your name on our Inaugural Wall.

As you are celebrating in this Season of Hope, maybe you will purchase toys or books for our Johnny M Playroom and Child Life programs at our Children’s Regional Hospital. It’s easy – just go to Amazon Smile Wish List. Our Child Life Program provides a range of support services – music and art therapy, therapeutic play, counselling – to our littlest patients.

On behalf of everyone at Cooper, I thank you and extend my warmest wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy New Year.

Mark Your 2016 Calendars!

Get a jump on the New Year and purchase your tickets now for the 2016 Cooper Red Hot Gala on Friday, April 8 at Vie in Philadelphia. Hosted by George and Sandy Norcross, chaired by The Hartung Family and Dr. Michael Goodman, Chief of Pediatrics. The Gala will benefit the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper.

Cooper University Health Care is near and dear to Edward R. Deal, DO, and his wife, Bernice. Dr. Deal is Vice Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Bernice knows first hand the importance of getting the right care - she was treated for gynecological cancer at Cooper.

Today, Bernice is cancer free, but she will always appreciate the care she received and will never forget the day she heard another patient worrying how she was going to pay for chemotherapy.

From Left to Right: Tim & Katie Deal, Dr. Edward & Bernice Deal and Genevieve & Todd Peto.

“That got me on my mission to find some way to help people who can’t afford it,” said Bernice.

Bernice and Ed give generously every year to the Patient-In-Need Fund, which provides small grants to MD Anderson Cooper patients who need help paying for prescriptions, transportation, utility bills and food.

They also support the Cooper Red Hot Gala, Pink Roses Teal Magnolias, Cornerstone Society and regularly donate toys for the Johnny M Playroom at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper.

Bernice said they are especially excited about the 2016 Red Hot Gala, benefiting the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper.

“I plan to be extra generous this year,” said Bernice, who appreciates that when she gives to Cooper she knows the money will go directly to helping patients and families locally.

"It is important to remember," Bernice said, "that regardless of your circumstances in life, there is always going to be someone less fortunate than you."

“My husband and I work hard, but we are blessed,” she said. “It is in our hearts to give because there are so may people in need.”

Keep #GivingTuesday Going

Thank you to everyone who participated in #GivingTuesday by donating to the new Johnny M Playroom at Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper. Keep the spirit going and help us check everything off our Amazon Smile Wish List.

Make it a holiday of hope by giving to a child in need.
