Former Preemie Collects Pennies for NICU

On Thursday, November 18, Melvin Sheppard and his family presented nearly $150 in pennies to Cooper’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Melvin was born 13 years ago – and nine weeks early, weighing only 2.9 pounds. His life was saved by the NICU’s exceptional care and life saving equipment.

Now a 7th grader living in Moorestown, Melvin wants to help other children like him. He saves his pennies throughout the year and brings them to Cooper annually to donate. The 18th marked his fifth annual visit.
