This week, we’re excited to spotlight Savana LaRocca, our new Marketing Intern. Savana brings a unique blend of creativity, compassion, and a deep-rooted passion for making a difference. From her first day, she has approached her role with enthusiasm and a thoughtful perspective shaped by her lifelong connection to the healthcare space and a strong desire to give back.

Get to know Savana as she shares what drew her to the Foundation, what inspires her, and the lessons she’s already gained as she supports our mission to improve patient care, education, and community programs.

What drew you to the Foundation initially?

I have been surrounded by the healthcare space my whole life. My mom is a nurse practitioner, and my dad is a doctor. Through the years I have seen what an incredible impact they have had on their patients and the community. As someone who didn’t necessarily have an interest in becoming a doctor or nurse, I still wanted to help others. I always felt drawn to the non-profit space so when I came across an opening in the Marketing Department at The Cooper Foundation, I knew I had found a place that combined my passion for marketing and making a difference.

What is most rewarding about working at the Foundation for you?

The most rewarding part about working at the Foundation is knowing that I have an impact. Even though I am not a medical professional directly providing care for patients, I am helping spread awareness of the amazing things Cooper has to offer. I have a hand in bringing the community together for all the great fundraising events the Foundation organizes to raise money for Cooper’s patient care, education and research, and community programs.

What skills or lessons have you gained since your start here that will help you with your job/life going forward?

One of the most impactful skills I’ve developed since my start here is the ability to craft meaningful and compelling stories that connect with various audiences. With each piece, I’ve learned to ensure that the audience not only understands the importance of a program or cause but also feels inspired to engage with it. Effective messaging has proven to be a critical factor in the success of our campaigns, and this experience has highlighted the power of clear, purpose-driven communication.

Who or what inspires you?

My mom inspires me. She is one of those people that does so much and makes it look easy. She meets with patients several times a week, teaches the next generation of nurses, and helps nurses with impaired practice get back on the right track. She does this all while also being a mom. It is hard not to watch her in action and not wonder how she gets it all done with a smile on her face. Every day she reminds to help others when I can. I hope that one day that I embody as much grace, selflessness, and humility as she does.

Describe your perfect day off.

I grew up going to a sleepaway camp, so my summers would always consist of spending time by the lake with friends. I’d say my perfect day off would be something of that nature. Being able to spend time with the people I love, enjoy the outdoors, be active, and maybe do some sailing on the lake seems more than ideal.
