Gala Host Committee Q&A – Get to Know Our Docs: Part 2

Our 2019 Gala Host Committee members are passionate about Cooper and its mission to serve, to heal, to educate. We are asking Host Committee members why they choose to give back.

Michael Chansky, MD
Chairman and Chief, Department of Emergency Medicine

What three words come to your mind when you think of Cooper?
Opportunity, Excellence, Community

Knowing that donations to the Cooper Red Hot Gala support our patients and our local community, why do you choose to give to Cooper?
My donations allow Cooper and Emergency Medicine to expand our procedural capabilities, offer collaborative opportunities, enhance faculty and resident engagement and wellness, and ultimately take the best care of our patients and the community.

Who inspired you to become a doctor?
The commitment of my pediatrician! It is a true privilege to be at the bedside and trusted to care for patients.

Anthony Dragun, MD
Chairman and Chief, Department of Radiation Oncology

What three words come to your mind when you think of Cooper?
Excellence, Devotion, Community

Knowing that donations to the Cooper Red Hot Gala support our patients and our local community, why do you choose to give to Cooper?
With so many options for giving in oncology, I prefer to give to The Cooper Foundation because I know that every dollar directly benefits our patients. We see this with our patients who benefit from transportation services supported by grants, improving their access to world-class care.

Who inspired you to become a doctor?
My mother went back to school to earn her medical degree as a second career when I was in elementary school. She was my primary inspiration for pursuing a career in medicine.

Francis R. Spitz, MD
Vice Chief, Department of Surgery

What three words come to your mind when you think of Cooper?
Excellence, Compassion, Care

Knowing that donations to the Cooper Red Hot Gala support our patients and our local community, why do you choose to give to Cooper?
I know these donations will help support the medical care of our South Jersey community. These donations make a difference for our patients, allow us to initiate novel treatments and provide amenities that improve our patient experience.

Who inspired you to become a doctor?
Growing up I had an aptitude for the sciences and was fortunate to work with a physician who was a friend of the family. I was inspired by his commitment to his patients. I wanted to choose a profession that I was passionate about and where I could make a difference.
