MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper Receives $3,200 From Divas For A Cure

On November 9, representatives and friends of Divas For A Cure rode their motorcycles right up to MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper to hand deliver a $3,200 donation to Susan Bass Levin, President and CEO of The Cooper Foundation, on behalf of the new cancer center.

The proceeds were raised from the non-profit’s 4th Annual Barb’s Harley Davison Divas For A Cure Breast Cancer Ride in October where 181 riders, passengers and donors from the tri-state area participated.

Jan Sunny Emanuel-Costley who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 16 and later with breast cancer at the age of 23, founded Divas For A Cure in 2005. Since its inception, the organization has held an annual breast cancer motorcycle fundraiser to promote early detection, education and screenings, and support research organizations in their quest to eradicate cancers of all kinds.

Over the years, Divas For A Cure has supported MD Anderson in Texas, and representatives were excited to learn about the new partnership between MD Anderson and Cooper.

“We are very familiar with MD Anderson’s brand and knew that the money would be well spent,” said Emanuel-Costley, who took a tour of the new facility during the November visit. “The new cancer center has a warm and very friendly, welcoming environment. It doesn’t feel like a hospital. We were absolutely blown away.”
