“Talk While You Walk/5K Run for Peggy Spiegler” Benefits Melanoma Research
Cooper Cancer Institute (CCI), along with several local organizations, will sponsor the third annual “Talk While You Walk/5K Run for Peggy Spiegler” on June 25, 2011, at Cooper River Park located in Pennsauken, New Jersey. Half of the proceeds from this year’s walk will go towards research in prevention and treatment of melanoma and other skin cancers for patients at CCI.
“Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer,” said Generosa Grana, MD, Director of the Cooper Cancer Institute. “We are participating in this local event to provide education to the people of South Jersey about prevention and to continue the important mission of the Spiegler family to advocate for screenings.”
Peggy Spiegler, a talented elementary school teacher, shared her enthusiasm for learning and generosity of spirit to all those around her including hundreds of elementary school students and treasured colleagues. Sadly, in July 2008, Peggy lost a lengthy and courageous battle with melanoma. Her family and friends, long-acquainted with Peggy’s kindness, strength, and intrinsic humanity, continue to honor her memory and the special legacy she has left behind through the “Talk While You Walk/5K Run.”
On the day of the event, registration starts at 8:00 a.m. and participants can begin their walk/run at 9:15 a.m. The pre-registration fee for adults is $25 each and for children, 12 to 18 years of age, the price is $10 each. You can also form a team of five or more with friends, family members or colleagues and walk as a group. Your team can be named in memory or in honor of someone, or in the name of a family or business.
