The Cooper Foundation Dedicates Sign in Honor of Pediatric Nurse, $15,000 Gift to Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper

The Cooper Foundation of the Cooper Health System unveiled a sign today, in honor of Delores I. Males, RN, BSN, and a $15,000 gift from the Dollie I. Males Angel Fund to the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper.
Dollie dedicated her life to taking care of others. While working full-time at PSEG, she worked the night shift as a nurse at Cooper University Hospital until 1976.
“Being in the pediatric unit was a way for her to dedicate her time to help people,” explained Jackie DeCarlo about her Aunt Dollie. “She did not have any children of her own, so I think it was a way for her to show her care and compassion for children.”
Delores I. Males, RN, BSN, worked the night shift as a nurse at Cooper University Hospital until 1976.
In attendance for the sign unveiling were: Susan Bass Levin, President and CEO of The Cooper Foundation; Dr. Michael Goodman, Chief of Pediatrics at the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper; Michael-Lin Pizzuto BSN, RN, CPN, Clinical Director of Pediatrics and Pediatric Intensive Care Units; and Dollie’s family and friends. The sign is placed near the parent’s lounge of the Children’s Regional Hospital.

“We are grateful for the Dollie I. Males Angel Fund’s generous commitment to the Children’s Regional Hospital,” said Susan Bass Levin, President and CEO of The Cooper Foundation. “Dollie’s passion for others embodies Cooper’s commitment to providing world-class care in a patient-family-centered environment.”
DeCarlo and her family established the Dollie I. Males Angel Fund to support projects in New Jersey that were special to Dollie, who now lives in an assisted living center for people with dementia in Maryland.
“Camden and the surrounding area are important to our family. We wanted to help the hospital and be part of the community development,” Jackie said. “I think Dollie would like the fact that she’s helping Cooper. She would like the fact that even though she is no longer a nurse, she is still part of the hospital.”
